friend, Elizabeth Huang-Majorczyk organized the 2nd Annual Emily
Fund Book Drive -- More than 450 books were collected for the
Washington School in Trenton and for the Roosevelt Public School
Library in Roosevelt. Each of the books includes a memorial plate
in memory of Emily Rachel Silverstein.

Garden & Peace Pole Dedication

A
Peace Pole and Peace Garden were planted at the center of the
Gettysburg College campus and dedicated to the life and legacy
of Emily Rachel Silverstein. The Peace Garden includes the weeping
cherry tree Emily's high school friend Jessica Weidman raised
money for. This tribute serves as a permanent place on campus
for students and faculty to find a peaceful moment and inspiration
to make a difference in their lives.

BENEFIT
CONCERT - Sunday, October 11
 |
Emily worked at Dairy Queen in East Windsor (Rt. 130) throughout
high school and during summers when she was home from college. She
loved everyone there like family and they felt the same way, and
they have kept a memorial to Emily up for all customers to see since
she died. On Sunday October 11 from 3-6 pm, the East Windsor
DQ sponsored a wonderful benefit in Emily's honor with live music,
and of course ice cream. |

21 , 2009 - Peace Day Celebration
- Roosevelt, NJ
|
The
Do One Thing Campaign brought Roosevelt residents together to
celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace on September
21 and to honor Emily Rachel Silverstein's legacy of working for
a more peaceful, just and sustainable world. High school junior,
Sierra Duchai organized the planting of a recycled River Birch
tree at Emily's grade school for peace and dedicated to Emily's
memory. Emily's friend Cecelia and her mother Gail organized the
showing of the inspiring film "The Day After Peace"
which documents one individual's efforts to promote the International
Day of Peace as a global ceasefire and day of peace in our homes,
our communities and between nations.

books were collected for the Roosevelt Public School Library in
Roosevelt and Better Beginnings in Hightstown. Each of the books
includes a memorial plate in memory of Emily Rachel Silverstein.

22, 2009 - Memorial Blood Drive
- Roosevelt, NJ

As
part of the Emily Fund's DoOneThing campaign, family friend, Elizabeth
Huang-Majorczyk has organized a Memorial Blood Drive with the
Community Blood Council of New Jersey to be held in front of
the Roosevelt Post Office on Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 9:30am
- 2pm.
New
Jersey's blood supplies have dropped below the critical five-day
supply level. People can do their part by being a blood donor
and help save a life. All types of blood are sought, but there
is an especially strong need for type O-negative blood. The bloodmobile
is a self contained unit used for this purpose and would just
need 10 minutes of each person's time to donate blood. Eligible
donors should be at least 17, weigh 110 pounds and be in generally
good health.

18, 2009 - One Day In Peace Play

When:
Tuesday, August 18 - 3pm
Where: Better Beginnings, 318 North Main St.
“One Day in Peace”, an adaptation of play by Robert Alan Silverstein
and Steve Diamond, will be presented by PACT (Peacemakers and
Counselors in Training), and Better Beginnings’ School Age group,
with the hope that our young people will continue Emily’s dream
of a “better world”. They will also sing, “We are the World,
We are the Children”, and offer their ideas for how we can make
ours a “better world”. Free and open to the public.

14, 2009 Benefit Concert at The Elks Club, East Windsor, NJ
|
Emily’s
friends, Erin Higgins and Cecelia Ticktin organized a Benefit
Concert on Friday August 14 from 7:30-10:30 pm. More than 200
people attended. The event officially launched The Emily Fund's
global "Do One Thing"
campaign. There were heartwarming speeches, food and drink, a
slideshow, and most importantly inspiring music to celebrate Emily's
life performed by more than a dozen people whose lives Emily touched.

to a graduating eighth-grader at Emily's middle school, Melvin
H. Kreps Middle School. Benjamin Benson was chosen as the first
recipient by his teachers based on his community and civic involvement.

10 , 2009 1st Annual Emily Silverstein Scholarship for a Better
World

This
year, The Emily Fund launched the annual Emily Silverstein Scholarship
for a Better World - a $1000 scholarship awarded to a graduating
senior at Emily's high school, Hightstown High School.
Ian
Henderson was selected for the first annual award based on his
essay on the theme: "What I have done and intend to do
with my life to help create a more peaceful, just and sustainable
world."

at the 15th Anniversary Concert of the New Jersey Intergenerational

donation was made to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 25 trees
in the Plumas National Forest in Emily Rachel Silverstein's Memory.

Tree Has been planted in Israel in Memory of Emily Rachel Silverstein.

Nick
and Liz set up a Kiva Lending Team in memory of Emily.
Kiva lets you lend small loans to empower
people to lift themselves out of poverty.

One
of Emily's favorite places on campus was Musselman's Library,
so Francesca and Sally, two of Emily's college friends, worked
with her college library director and staff to create a memorial
book plate to be placed on the first page of a selected list of
books that reflected Emily's academic interests and passions.

A
donation was made to Better Beginnings Child Development Center
in memory of Emily.
|
A
contribution in memory of Emily was made to Susan G Komen for
the Cure.
|
|
Family
friend, Larry Auld, made a donation to plant a tree in Emily's
honor in New York City as part of the restoration project Million
Trees NYC, founded by Bette Midler.
